It has been a while since I have written. A lot has happened during that time, both personally as well as nationally. Like you, I’ve been processing assassination attempts, Presidents deciding they’re not going to run for reelection, etc.
During times such as these, it’s easy to become distracted, lose focus, and then get agitated at the state of the world. Remember to keep your eye on the prize and put your trust where it really will do you some good.
This passage from Jeremiah 17 spells it out directly.
5 Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,[a]
whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 He is like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
In times like these, don’t put your trust in man. The Lord says that such people are “cursed” and they are like “shrub[s] in the desert.” They shall “not see any good come.” Simply, men are weak and fallible. They will always disappoint.
Rather, trust in the Lord. Those that do this are “blessed” and are like a “tree planted by water.” Such people do not “fear when heat comes” (adversity) because they are tapped into the greatest power of all. Further, they will “not cease to bear fruit.”
While things feel like they are heating up and getting crazy, focus on the Lord and put your trust in him. Yes, do your civic duty and participate in the life of our nation, but let your faith remain with God. Maybe there is a storm coming. I cannot say for sure. But I do know that if it comes, it was God’s will and he has given us the direction for how to weather it. And that starts by focusing on and trusting in him.

This absolutely spoke to me. I've been so caught up in "what's going on the world", that it consumed me. Whatever happens, happens. I trust God. This doesn't mean that I'm not worried or scared - just that I know God has a plan for all of us and he loves us, and that's what matters.
Exactly. As Christians we are not to live for this world.
