One of my readers, Napoleon, responded with the comment, “I was thinking about getting a lawn sign for every fall season - ‘No matter who wins, Jesus is King.’”
I think that’s the right attitude to approach this election. Please get out and vote your conscience. The world is a worse place when faithful Christians detach from it and abdicate their responsibilities.
But having said that, no politician, political party, or political program will ever solve the world’s ills. No human has that power, because the world’s ills are all caused by indwelling sin that every human being carries with them.
The only solution to what ails the world is Jesus. And no matter who wins tomorrow’s election (apologies to all my foreign readers who must be sick and tired of American political neuroticism right about now), remember that Jesus reigns as King today and forever more. Remember that, as a Christian, you are no longer of this world. Your citizenship is higher and more permanent.
Today’s Prayer
Holy Father, maker of all things, who was and is and is yet to come, thank you that you are in control. Thank you that Jesus sits on the throne at your right hand and that you have given him dominion over all of creation. Thank you that he will come again to judge the nations and to rule your kingdom forever as the perfect King of Kings. Help the USA to survive this election. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
