“I the Lord will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:14
This was a Rhema/Machiron word of truth that the Holy Spirit gave me to overcome a stronghold of lies in my life that had stuck with me since childhood. I believed (subconsciously) that I needed to defend myself. 99% of the time when in my right mind, I would have agreed that God is my defender. However, When stressful situations occurred, or I was triggered by the situation, I would launch into an angry tirade of self-protection. God taught me through this verse that He is my defender. I would take a breath, say the scripture and allow him to defend me instead. The amazing thing was: not only did He ALWAYS defend me, but I realized that 9 times out of 10, there was nothing to defend. Fear had been lying to me. It was only after I started allowing Him to defend me that I realized this.
This is why this verse is so special to me. It was the first one He gave me in this context of using scripture as a weapon.
That same day, when the evening came, He said to them, "Let us go across to the other side."
When Jesus gives a directive, he will stand behind it without fail. “Let us go across to the other side.”
Jesus was tired from a day of preaching parables from a boat to the crowd gathered on a beach. Afterward he explained all these things plainly to his disciples. Tired as he was, the disciples took him as he was and started across the Sea of Galilee. Soon after there arose a great storm that filled the boat with water.
Mark 4:38-41 MEV
He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" [39] He rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" Then the wind ceased and there was a great calm. [40] He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is that you have no faith?" [41] They feared greatly and said to one another, "What kind of Man is He, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"
How quickly, when a storm arises, do we forget the promises of God! “Let us go to the other side”.
My story is a long one but just let it be known that Jesus has always come through for me even when I doubted in my fears. He taught me to trust him at all times and in every circumstance by laying aside every weight and the sin that so easily besets me, in order that I might run the race set before me with patience.
My favorites have already been mentioned here, but I will list them again:
“Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6
and
"And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28
These are both related to:
"In EVERYTHING give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." I Thessalonians 5:18
and
"Giving thanks ALWAYS, for ALL things, unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Ephesians 5:20
The emphasis is mine. Basically these verses all tell me that my understanding is not reliable. What I think about things, what I think is good or bad, can lead me astray, but I can always trust God and thank and praise Him. No matter what it is, He will make it work for my good. I have lived with this understanding for more than 50 years, and He has never let me down yet. Period.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6
“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You” Isaiah 26:3
These two verses have sustained me through my alcoholic daughter’s 2 suicide attempts and recovery…tomorrow we celebrate 10 months of sobriety with her ( last year she made 7 months); my husband’s total hip replacement last year and now his diagnosis of metastatic squamous cell Ca! At removal of his parotid gland in July the surgeon could not remove all the cancer. In August he was given 6 months life expectancy but today, thanks to 🙏🏻 and naturopathic nutraceuticals and repurposed drugs he looks and feels healthier than ever, despite the dressing over the draining tumour growing on the outside of his neck! All the glory goes to God✝️
But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”
Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
Especially meaningful to me as I found this verse written on a piece of paper on a path while walking with my sister. I had been lamenting about not being able to awaken a friend who believes all the lies surrounding the plandemic, when I saw it out of the corner of my eye.
This one is pretty self-explanatory, a sentence that sums up the gift of God and how to accept it.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
As is the case with the New Testament in general, Romans 8:28 sheds greater light on the reality expressed in Job 13:15a. I have used both on many occasions in the past and, if the Lord tarries, it is clear that both will be invaluable anchors in the coming storms that lie ahead.
Romans 8:28 very clearly says that:
1) ALL things - not SOME things;
2) work TOGETHER for GOOD - regardless of whether they ARE good, and even if they ARE EVIL;
3) for those who love God, to those who are the called according to HIS - not OUR - purpose.
Perhaps it doesn’t ’do it’ for others, but those two verses, taken together with the other essential truths the Bible reveals about the character and attributes of God, are very definitely of immense help to me as I navigate through the dark, sometimes confusing, and increasingly treacherous days we must contend with.
BUT (Behold the Underlying Truth) God… To God be the glory, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:3-4
Yep, I love those first two, particularly how you have paired them. It's a great reminder that sometimes when God is doing something great, it won't make sense to us, but that we should trust him anyway. I wrote a bit on Romans 8:28 previously (here: https://simplechristianity.substack.com/p/is-romans-8-28-a-promise).
The scariest one to me: Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that DOES THE WILL of My Father which is in heaven.
I love the story Ruth in that it's a story of God's providence and that the lineage of Jesus is through a lot of atypical people that just had great faith. I especially love the greetings: "The Lord be with you and bless you" everywhere throughout the book. Our society says "good luck" instead of giving the blessing of the Lord. I'm cheating and also listing the story of Esther. I'm Mordecaian in approach to life and love his statement, "If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place... ...who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this." We need to follow Isaiah 50:10 and walk in darkness with no light, trusting in the name of the Lord and relying on our God. I've lived in 50:11 and tried to light my own torches to guide my own way and it doesn't work.

Yes. How easily we forget who he is.

Lean not on your own understanding, indeed. When you’re hurting, it doesn’t make HUMAN sense to give thanks. And yet God calls us to do just that.
My favorite story is Matt 18:12-14 aka leave the 99. It shows us the Lord's love for those who have wandered off.
My favorite verse is John 14:6 because He states who He is without room for doubt and He dispels any belief that there are other ways to the Father.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6

God is good. Sounds like you've spent a bunch of time in the valley of the shadow of death. I'm glad to hear that you're starting to come out.
There are many but this one came to mind first.
But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV
Wow, that's powerful. I can't wait to find out what he has prepared for us. Thanks!
You’re welcome.

Tangible proof that God hears us. 🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏
Any time God tells you to "Fear not," it's going to be a good day.

Ephesians 2:8-9

That's the heart of the gospel, right there.
Two (2), but they are essentially the same:
1) Job 13:15a
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
2) Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Yes, indeed. Also, this one:

If I could "Like" that one twice, I would. I love the honesty of the father.
Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. (Genesis 5:24)
Nice.
