The Biblical Evidence Found at Nineveh
Are the accounts listed in the Bible real, or just fiction? The historical record confirms the Bible.
I can’t stress enough how much I enjoy Joel Kramer’s YouTube channel, Expedition Bible. It’s a great blend of both Christian truth and archaeological evidence.
So, I was happy when my son came into the room the other day and said, “Dad, did you see that Joel Kramer just released another episode of Expedition Bible?”
One of the constant criticisms we hear from non-believers is that, “If the Bible is true, how come we don’t see more evidence of it in the historical record?”
Well, the fact is, the critics are just wrong — we do. We have all sorts of non-Biblical sources that confirm parts of the Biblical record, agreeing on the names of Israelite kings, for instance.
In this case, Joel goes through some of the archaeological evidence found at the Assyrian city of Nineveh. Yep, that’s the same city that God spared after he sent the prophet Jonah there, that time that Jonah tried to ignore God’s command and sneak away.
At Nineveh, archaeologists found Sennacherib’s palace, and within the palace found evidence that confirms some of the details of the attempted Assyrian conquest of Israel that stopped at Jerusalem. This happened during the reign of Hezekiah. The Assyrian conquest appears multiple times in the Bible:
2 Kings, chapters 18 and 19
2 Chronicles, chapter 32
Isaiah, chapter 37
Enjoy!
The Bible is not a fairy tale. This is one more confirmation, one more data point, that it’s not a hoax. Sennacherib and Hezekiah did exist, just as the Bible said they did, and their deeds are recorded in the archaeological record. The Israelites did live in Canaan during the time that the Bible claims they did. They had kings that reigned. These kings fought battles with their neighbors. Archaeologists can go to the sites of those battles and find evidence for them. These kings show up in the records of those other civilizations.
Today’s Prayer
Holy Father, maker of all things, source of absolute truth, may your Kingdom come and your will be done. Thank you that you have not left us without evidence. Thank you that you have not demanded that we believe without reason. Thank you that you have provided us with confirmation outside of the Bible itself so that we can have confidence that what you have said and recorded for us is true. Help us through today’s troubles, knowing that we stand on the rock of your Word and your character. Amen.

I have a book called "Sodom and Gomorrah" - with all the archeological evidence of the nuking of that place, which geographically was huge. Everyone is always looking for ways to discredit the Bible..... mostly those who have never read it.
